Toronto secular family therapist

Margaret Hicks

Hi my name is Margaret Hicks.  I am a psychotherapist, registered social worker and marriage and family therapist.  I provide psychological services to individuals, couples, and families in the Yonge and Eglinton area of Toronto.

I have a Masters of Science degree from the University of Guelph, an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy accredited program and a Specialized Honours degree from York University.  My post-graduate training includes:  Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT) Certification, Intensive Sex Therapy, children and adolescents mental health, Custody Evaluation and trauma treatment. I am a registered social worker.

With over 15 years clinical experience, I have worked with many individuals, couples, adolescents and children experiencing a range of challenges.  I practice from a systemic framework using narrative, solution-focused and evidence-based practices of therapy such as CBT and emotion-focused couples counselling.

I provide a safe, neutral setting to help clients explore often very painful or distressing issues in a contained, constructive manner.  Together, we build on existing strengths and skills and utilize tools and resources to help make positive changes.

I help clients facilitate healthy relationships that include feelings of closeness and connectedness, encourage open communication and promote collaborative decision-making.  In a safe, caring environment , I help clients explore complex and often very painful issues in a contained, constructive manner.  I build on existing strengths, skills and resilience.   Using a variety of therapeutic approaches (systemic, CBT, narrative, relaxation), I help clients move from feelings of helplessness to a sense of competency.

Please call me today if you have any questions or would like to make an appointment.  I look forward to talking to you.

Margaret
